Thank you Stickman Review editor Anthony Brown for selecting my poems, “Letter to My Daughter after Dreaming of Joy” and “Race Day” for inclusion in Stickman Review: Volume 22 ¨ Number 1.
I’m honored and thrilled for these two pieces—inspired by my daughter, Cameren, and my son, Matthew, respectively—to be featured together in such an impressive journal.
Congrats, Stephanie and how lovely these two poems are – rich in imagery and love!❤️

Congrats again!
These both touch my ever-mothering heart (whether or not physically near my kids). And I definitely get your “grumbles of kinship for the earthworms all sluggish”.

I enjoyed both of your poems, but “Letter to My Daughter” is the one that went straight to my heart. It reminded me so much of my daughter.

Oh, Liz, thank you! I’m so pleased to know that “Letter to My Daughter…” spoke to you. Can you believe that one was rejected 26 times before it was welcomed home? Po’ biz, sheesh…

You’re welcome, Stephanie! 26 rejections?! I do find that hard to believe.

Such wonderful captures of your bond with each child, Steph. I especially like your letter to Cameren; I share Liz’s disbelief that it didn’t find a home sooner! On the other hand, it’s nice to see the daughter-son pieces paired.

Thanks, Cate! Cameren’s unprompted illustration in response to the poem addressed to her was especially rewarding for me. I knew this poem would find its place, eventually. I think it’s a bonus that Anthony selected the daughter/son duo, too.

Brava! These are both a joy, even if I might now be slightly haunted by Bizarro World Muppets… I love that you also have an eastern white pine teaching you Tree-Speak. And also, “I am no less annelid”… 🥰 That line is an earworm (sorry!)
