I’m honored and proud to share that the first section of my seven-section-long poem dedicated to my children, “Everest” (i. A Welcomed Peril), has been included in the inaugural issue of the online journal, 12 Poets. I’m grateful to Lenny DellaRocca and Jeff Santosuosso for offering this piece one of twelve exclusive slots, and I’m humbled by the luminous company I find myself in!
A love letter to your kids!š wonderful, Stephanie and congratulations, looks like an excellent journal!

Wonderful, Steph! I couldn’t help but be reminded of Adrienne Rich’s “Phantasia for Elvira Shatayev” in the explicit mountaineering descriptions.

This is a tour de force, Stephanie–congratulations! I’m vexed that they couldn’t take the whole piece (it’s a digital journal after all, with no space concerns) but maybe it’s for the best that this section stands alone, letting us take our time with that stunning climb and go right back up to read it again. I love the way the ascent continues to outer space, where that most SLH of lines “And I made it twice!” breaks the tension and roots us back to Mother Earth. šš

Your response to my poem is so validating! I, too, was vexed that they didn’t publish the whole thing (I’d thought they would). But you may be right about it working well as a standalone piece. It gives readers a chance to absorb it.
